01Prefer the primary source when it exists
A regulation, official statistic, technical documentation or original study is sought before commentary about it. Secondary sources can add context, but they do not automatically replace the document they describe.
02Date information that can age
A figure, recommendation, public policy or software document can change. Les5C records the document date when available and the consultation date so the state of the information remains visible.
03Cross-check when sources appear to disagree
Two sources may differ because they measure a different population, period or indicator. Cross-checking starts by understanding that difference before calling it a contradiction.
04Cite without transferring authority
An organisation logo or name on this page means one of its documents was used. It does not imply partnership, endorsement of Les5C content or approval of the published analysis.
